philadelphia flower show
By Melissa O'Brien
Spring has sprung, which means it won’t be long until the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show blooms for the second year in a row at FDR Park in South Philly! We learned a lot from last year’s inaugural outdoor Show, which is why the 2022 Flower Show promises new experiences, upgrades, and enhancements for guests.
"In Full Bloom” offers something for everyone – a diverse lineup of floral and landscape designers, a new play space for kids, live music, and so much more. From all the great things to see, do, eat, hear, and experience, read on for seven of our favorite highlights of what to see and do at this year’s Show!
This year’s Show layout will highlight more floral and garden displays, featuring an eclectic mix of major exhibitors from Philadelphia and overseas. We will host the most women designers the Show has ever featured in one year!
This year’s exhibitors will bring to life their interpretation of how gardening and horticulture are the greatest forms of therapy. Visitors of all ages and experience levels will learn something new to bring nature and the joy of gardening into their own lives and homes.
New for 2022, Artisan Row is an interactive, elevated crafting experience led by talented local horticultural artisans including Wax & Wine, Serene & Green, Philly DIY Wedding, Camellia Faire, and Posh & Bloom. You can choose from a variety of arts including fresh floral crowns, personalized candle making, dried floral arranging, and botanical jewelry. This space will also include a bar and lounge so you may enjoy a cocktail while you create in this inviting, bohemian style space.
The cost per craft ranges from $20-$25, and you will leave the Flower Show with a one-of-kind souvenir that you hand-crafted yourself! The cost per craft can be added to your Flower Show ticket purchase or paid onsite to the specific artisan (or artisans!) of your choice.
There will be numerous ways for families and children to experience the beauty and fun of horticulture together at the 2022 Flower Show. The Kids Cocoon will feature an outdoor playground and a dedicated place for kids and parents to relax and enjoy. There will also be daily programming tailored to young children in partnership with John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, 4-H Philadelphia County, Seed Your Future, and Organic Mechanics.
Young families can celebrate Father’s Day together at the Flower Show with Family Frolic on Sunday, June 19. This special day will feature a variety of floral, gardening, and craft activities, plus sights and sounds provided by local Philadelphia partners and institutions. All Family Frolic programming is free and included with your ticket purchase for this date.
One of the most popular experiences for many years at the Show, Butterflies Live! has been transformed into a butterfly paradise in a way that you've never experienced before -- with an updated netted structure and a beautiful pollinator garden component. Get up close with hundreds of spectacular, native butterflies in an outdoor garden exhibit. Witness butterflies interacting with an array of plant life and flowers. This all-ages activity will amaze you with a variety of gorgeous creatures and some unforgettable photo opportunities during your visit!
New this year, the Flower Show will feature musical entertainment three times a day with a variety of bands from the Philadelphia area. Included with your ticket purchase, you can catch live music throughout the Show at stages located near the Food Bazaar.
To unwind after a day of exploring, guests can pay a visit to our Happy Hour events, hosted by Fine Wine & Good Spirits. These free events will feature unique alcoholic tastings, live music, and celebrity bottle signing events. Happy Hour will take place June 13 – 17 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and is free with admission.
Flowers After Hours is where guests are encouraged to light up the night with glowing attire and accessories under the stars! Light up the night at this 21+ after-hours event while you drink, eat, and dance among the beautiful exhibits. This year's theme is "Let's Glow!" Enjoy the evening with great tastings, incredible music, and a surprise to end the night.
This year’s party will feature SNACKTIME, whose members have performed with Beyoncé, Ivy Sole, BrassTracks, and others. DJ Diamond Kuts, the official DJ of the Philadelphia Eagles and newly announced co-host of the revamped YO! MTV Raps, will spin tracks guaranteed to keep you dancing. There will be special drag performances and fun hands-on activations.
