Exhibiting at the Flower Show is a great way for everyone to join PHS in gardening for the greater good. The Design Classes are a great way for individuals, groups of friends or families, clubs, and other organizations to show off their creativity and skills. Everyone is invited to get involved!

2027 Philadelphia Flower Show Design Class Entry Form

Entries are accepted beginning Friday, March 6, 2026, at 12:00 pm EST. Acceptance is determined by multiple criteria, including submission order and space availability. Entry status will be emailed by PHS starting on April 15, 2026.

 

2027 Design Classes

Garden Design Classes

Design a garden space inspired by a famous garden from anywhere in the world. Name the garden, no duplicates.
 

Staged in an area 16′ by 12′ x 1′ deep. Exhibitors are permitted to add outdoor containers, pavers, and other accessories. All plants must be rooted. Dried flowers are permitted as accessories. Uncut fruits and vegetables are permitted. A plant list is required, and all rooted plants must be labeled. 
 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $2,000. Judged on Friday, March 12, as Class 160, and Wednesday, March 17, as Class 160A.

Design an inviting al fresco dining space of a restaurant or other food vendor in an area 12′ wide X 8′ x 1’ deep with a 10’ high wall. Door, window(s), shutters, window box, stairs or any other decorative elements are optional and must be supplied by the exhibitor. No roof construction permitted. Exhibitors are permitted to add outdoor containers, pavers, and furniture. A plant list is required, and all rooted plants must be labeled.

 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $1,500.

 

Judged on Friday, March 12, as Class 161, and Wednesday, March 17, as Class 161A.

Create a garden vignette with public seating. Staged in a 6’ x 3’ x 1’ deep box.  No construction. A plant list is required, and all plants must be rooted.

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $500. Judged on Friday, March 12, as Class 175, and Wednesday, March 17, as Class 175A.

A window box and a container(s). Window boxes are 30″ long, 6″ wide, and 5½″ deep. The window box must include a minimum of 5 rooted plants, and the exhibitor must provide at least one container with a minimum of one rooted plant. A plant list is required, and all plants must be rooted.
 

  • CLASS 167—BLOOM IN LIVING COLOR. Youth Class. A window box and a container(s) with a focus on flowering plants.  Open to schools and youth groups working with students in grades 12 and below.  Limited to 6 entries. Subsidy: $150. Judged on Friday, March 12; removed on Wednesday, March 17.
     
  • CLASS 168—A FULL PLATE. Novice Class. A window box and a container(s) with a focus on edible plants. Open to exhibitors who have not won a blue ribbon in a Design Class at the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show prior to 2027. Limited to 6 entries. Subsidy: $150. Judged on Wednesday, March 17.
  • CLASS 135—Create an exterior setting of a historic house or institution somewhere in the world.
  • CLASS 136— Novice Class. Create a setting of a historic house or institution somewhere in the world. Open to exhibitors who have not won a blue ribbon in a Miniature Settings Classes at the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show prior to 2027.

Name the location. No duplicates. You must use at least 8 live plants. A plant list is required. Scale: one inch equals one foot. Application in these classes requires additional information to determine appropriate experience and qualifications.
 

Minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 entries in each class. Subsidy: $400. Judged on Thursday, March 11.

Floral Design Classes

Think beyond the table; create an interior room designed to celebrate a milestone event in your home. Cut flower design(s) must predominate. Sustainability challenge: no traditional floral foam is allowed in this class. To be staged on a 12’ wide x 10’ deep platform, 4” high, with an 8’ back wall and an 8’ high by 6’ deep wall on one side. No construction is permitted.
 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $1000. Judged on Friday, March 12, as Class 156, and Wednesday, March 17, as Class 156A.

Create a floral installation on a piece of public infrastructure (e.g., a trash can, street sign, etc.). To be staged on a 12′ wide by 10′ deep platform, 4″ high. No construction is permitted. Exhibitors must include the public infrastructure and are permitted to include additional accessories, including floor coverings. Fresh cut flowers must predominate. Rooted plants are permitted. Uncut fruits and vegetables are permitted. Dried plant material, dried treated plant material, and accessories are permitted. A plant list is required for all plants, and rooted plants must be labeled.
 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $750. Judged on Friday, March 12, as Class 134, and Wednesday, March 12, as Class 134A.
