Exhibiting at the Flower Show is a great way for everyone to join PHS in gardening for the greater good. The Design Classes are a great way for individuals, groups of friends or families, clubs, and other organizations to show off their creativity and skill. Everyone is invited to get involved!

Design Classes

Design Classes for the 2024 Flower Show have been filled.

Design an outdoor gathering space that incorporates a community garden. Staged in an area 16’ x 12’ x 1’ deep. Exhibitors are permitted to add pavers, furniture, and other accessories. No fresh cut flowers. A plant list is required, and all plants must be labeled. 

 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $2000. Judged on Friday, March 1, as Class 160, and Wednesday, March 6, as Class 160A. 

Design a setting for a celebration. Name the celebration. To be staged on a platform 12′ wide x 10′ deep x 4″ high, with an 8′ back wall and 8′ high by 6′ deep wall on one side. Exhibitors must include a table and are permitted to include additional furniture and other accessories. Rooted plants are required. Fresh cut flowers are allowed. A plant list is required, and all plants must be labeled.   

 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $1,500. Judged on Friday, March 1, as Class 161, and Wednesday, March 6, as Class 161A. 

Design a Philadelphia-themed store window display. To be staged in a platform 10’-4” x 6’, 18” above the floor. Windows are 9’-6” wide by 5’-10” high, 26” above the floor. The interior walls are 8’ high; exterior walls are 10’ high. The store type or display product must be named in the intent; no duplicates are permitted. The exhibit must contain fresh-cut flowers. Treated dried plant material, dried treated plant material, and accessories are permitted. Rooted plants are permitted. A plant list is required. 

 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $750. Judged on Friday, March 1, as Class 156, and Wednesday, March 6, as Class 156A. 

Design a bold arbor and garden incorporating repurposed material.  Staged in an area 8’ x 10’ x 4” deep. Must contain an arbor. Uncut fruits and vegetables and fresh cut flowers are permitted. Accessories are permitted with Committee approval. Rooted plants are required. Fresh cut flowers are allowed. A plant list is required, and all plants must be labeled.   

 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $600. Judged on Friday, March 1, as Class 137 and Wednesday, March 6, as Class 137A. 

Design a wreath and container collection for a special event or holiday. Name the event or holiday. Wreaths must consist primarily of fresh and dried plant material. Staging consists of a door in a frame, a landing, and one step. Exhibitors will be provided with their doors in advance. Accessories are permitted. No fresh cut flowers. A plant list is required, and all rooted plants must be labeled. 

 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $150. Judged on Friday, March 1; removed Wednesday, March 6.  

Design a wreath and container collection reminiscent of an iconic neighborhood. Name the neighborhood. Wreaths must consist primarily of fresh and dried plant material. Staging consists of a door in a frame, a landing, and one step. Exhibitors will be provided with their doors in advance. Accessories are permitted. No fresh cut flowers. A plant list is required, and all rooted plants must be labeled. 

 

Limited to 4 entries in each class. Subsidy: $150. Judged on Wednesday, March 6. 

Design an entrance to a real or imaginary place of your choice. Name the time and place. Staged in an area 6’ x 4’ x 1’ deep. Accessories are permitted. No cut flowers. A plant list is required, and all plants must be labeled. 

 

Limited to 4 entries. Subsidy: $300. Judged on Friday, March 1, as Class 165, and Wednesday, March 6, as Class 165A. 

Create a setting for a special event somewhere in the world. Name the location and event. You must use at least 8 live plants. Scale: one-inch equals one foot. These classes will be juried. 


Minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 entries in each class. Subsidy: $400. Judged on Thursday, February 29, as classes 135 and 136.
