[Philadelphia – September 10, 2020] A new PHS Pop Up Garden® location in Manayunk is now open for the season, providing a beautiful outdoor oasis for visitors to experience a unique blend of horticulture and culinary arts. Located at the east end of Manayunk at 106 Jamestown Ave, the venue takes advantage of the beauty and close community feel of Manayunk, Roxborough, and surrounding neighborhoods, providing “a new garden” for those interested in horticulture and produce gardening.
The PHS Pop Up Garden at Manayunk is a space where visitors can enjoy a safe and relaxing garden space, with a full food and beverage menu, a demonstration vegetable and herb garden, and plant-focused events throughout the season. The venue features more than 2,200 plants, including varieties from agaves to verbena, canna to salvia, and herbs such as basil, thyme, and sage. The menu offers delicious fare from the owners of local Philadelphia restaurants including: Cantina Los Caballitos, Khyber Pass Pub, Cantina Dos Segundos, Royal Tavern, Triangle Tavern, Royal Boucherie, and Royal Sushi & Izakaya. A selection of curated cocktails, a variety of frozen drinks, craft beers, non-alcoholic beverages, wine, and snacks are also available.
“We scouted a 2nd PHS Pop Up Garden location for some time, and were absolutely thrilled to secure this location in Manayunk. The neighborhood offers a diverse group of visitors, from plant-curious to expert gardeners, from families to foodies, from business owners to students and other residents,” said Cristina Tessaro, Associate Director of Pop Up Gardens for PHS.

This 2nd PHS Pop Up Garden location is part of PHS’s large network of public gardens and landscapes throughout the region. A unique element from the 2020 Philadelphia Flower Show, “The Lemonary,” has been repurposed in the Manayunk location to highlight PHS’s commitment to sustainability, and to enhance the ambiance of the site.
Food selections include finger food for foodies and families, and the herbs from the demonstration garden are incorporated into both the food offerings and specialty cocktails. Some featured seasonal cocktails include the “Woodermelon,” a cocktail with Tito’s Vodka, watermelon, ginger, and lime; the “Gritty Granita” with 3 Olives Orange Vodka, Tang, and Vanilla; the “Tarragon Palmer” with Jack Daniels, sun tea, and lemonade; and the “Ginger Monkey Smash” with Monkey Shoulder whiskey, pineapple, ginger beer, and basil.
Diners have the option of contactless service and can order and pay from their table using an online point of sale system (https://popupmanyunk.hrpos.heartland.us/menu). Once the order is placed within the Garden, a server will bring food and drinks to each table.
Out of an abundance of caution, PHS has set guidelines within the space in accordance to both the City of Philadelphia and CDC recommendations for safe social distancing at restaurants. These guidelines can be found on our website.
PHS will continue to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of our guests, staff, and community. With that, processes may change and will be posted on the PHS website and social media accounts. The Pop Up Garden at Manayunk is open through October 2020, Wednesday and Thursdays from 5 p.m.-10 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 12 noon-10 p.m. Plentiful parking for the Garden is available on Venice Island via Lock Street, a short block away from Jamestown Ave.

PHS’s Pop Up Gardens help create healthier living environments and build deeper social connections among people and their neighborhoods. By visiting the garden, or becoming a PHS member or donor, visitors play an important role in advancing PHS’s mission of using horticulture to garden for the greater good.
