Adam Hill joined PHS in 2012 and is currently the Director of the Community Gardens Program. Adam manages a team that supports urban agriculture in Philadelphia, including more than 170 community gardens and farms in the region. Adam’s team helps Philadelphia gardeners grow and share fresh, high-quality produce with their communities and cook with produce that is culturally relevant to their heritage. This includes propagating and distributing over 270,000 vegetable seedlings annually to growing sites who are part of the City Harvest Program and who have agreed to donate a portion of their bounty to local food access programs. He loves interacting with gardeners from across the city to ensure they have the resources they need to thrive.
Adam was born and raised in Philadelphia, but developed his love for agriculture while studying indigenous farming practices in Guatemala and Mexico. He has a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Latin American Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. For the past 15 years, he has worked in small scale urban agriculture in the Philly region. Adam’s an avid home gardener, too – tending to his large garden and flock of chickens in Germantown.
