Support PHS

  • There are many benefits in giving wisely to PHS.

Read more below about ways you can make a transformative difference.

Planned Giving

Planned Giving is a simple, straight-forward way to realize significant tax advantages while making a meaningful gift to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. By leaving a gift to PHS in your estate plans, you will make a significant contribution to our mission without reducing the assets available to you in your lifetime. Gifts include:

• Gifts that pay you back throughout your lifetime
• Gifts that cost nothing in your lifetime
• Gifts that support the next generation
• Gifts that anyone can make

There are many ways you can select PHS as a beneficiary of your estate, and help ensure that our work to garden for the greater good will continue to strengthen our region far into the future.

Gifts from IRA or Retirement Accounts

If you are 70½ or older, you can make a gift to PHS directly through your IRA without having to pay income tax on the money. Contact us to learn more.

Matching and Workplace Giving

Matching gift forms are also available through your employer’s human resources department.

Completed forms can be mailed to:
PHS Development Office

Gifts of Stock

Gifts of securities are simple to donate and a wonderful way to support
our work.

Gifts from Donor Advised Funds

A donor advised fund (DAF) is a giving vehicle establish through a public charity. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants from the established fund over time. You can name PHS as a beneficiary of your donor advised fund to support our work. You may also pay for your PHS membership through
your DAF.

Tax Identification

PHS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All gifts to PHS are considered tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

PHS Tax Identification number is 23-1352265.

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act

We want to provide some guidance from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. For anyone who wants to support PHS or any other charities at this time, there are some changes that might benefit you:

  • If you don’t itemize your income tax deductions, you can now deduct up to $300 in donations. Previously, only those who itemized were able to use a charitable deduction. For the rest of 2020, an individual will be able to deduct up to $300, even if you don’t itemize. This deduction can be used for contributions only of cash (not stock) to qualified charitable organizations.
  • You can now deduct up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for charitable deductions. Formerly, an individual could deduct up to 60% of their adjusted gross income (AGI) for charitable deductions of cash. The stimulus package lifts that restriction so that an individual can deduct up to 100% of their AGI for the year 2020. Also, any contributions in excess of total AGI may be carried forward for up to five additional years. This may not be used to fund Donor Advised Funds.
  • Corporate charitable deduction limits have been increased to 25% of taxable income. The Act temporarily lifts the cap on a corporation’s charitable deductions from 10% to 25% of taxable income and raises the cap on charitable contributions of food inventory from 15% to 25% of taxable income.
