The PHS Green Resource Center at Farm Park is a comprehensive teaching and produce-growing facility that will support a Montgomery County, PA-wide effort to increase access to fresh, healthy food, help people build social connections with their neighbors, and increase access to economic opportunities through job training.
The Center includes: a teaching farm, a greenhouse, shade area for seedlings, a wash station, a pavilion for public programming, pollinator gardens, community garden beds, and workforce development opportunities in conjunction with YWCA Tri-County Area. It is located within Norristown Farm Park on a two-acre site, and is being funded by Montgomery County, including CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act) funding.
Yearly, PHS aims to engage hundreds of Montgomery County residents in food growing workshops, support new and existing community gardens in Montgomery County, and harvest and distribute an abundance of organically and culturally relevant produce. PHS will lead all activities at the site in partnership with Montgomery County, the YWCA Tri-County Area, and other community-based organizations, with a focus on increasing food sovereignty through food gardening, advancing local self-reliance, and job training opportunities in the region. The YWCA anticipates 200 people will have access to education and training opportunities.
