Celebrate the start of garden season at PHS’s beloved outdoor spaces, where
gardens, engaging events, and unique flavors grow together.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – March 13, 2026 – The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is welcoming the spring season with the re-opening of the beloved PHS Pop Up Gardens in Manayunk and South Street beginning March 13, 2026. Filled with green plants and seasonal blooms, these welcoming gardens invite guests to gather with friends and neighbors while enjoying food and drinks, hands-on workshops, and community programming all season long.

Beginning March 13, the gardens will soft open depending on weather conditions, with an official grand opening planned for March 27, 2026. For updates on hours and announcements, follow @phspopupgardens on social media.

This season introduces new menu additions, creative cocktails, and an expanded lineup of hands-on workshops and events. Every visit helps grow something bigger; proceeds from the Pop Up Gardens support PHS’s year-round greening initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods, expand access to fresh food, and advance community health and well-being across the Greater Philadelphia region.

If you loved the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show and wonder what happens to the beautiful plants in the exhibits, look no further than the PHS Pop Up Gardens! Hundreds of plants and shrubs are given a second home after the Flower Show, continuing PHS’s sustainability efforts.

Food and Beverage
Both PHS Pop Up Gardens offer a wide range of food and drink options for everyone to enjoy, including vegetarian, vegan, and meat-based dishes. Guests can sip creative cocktails and refreshing frozen drinks, along with wine, craft beers, and a robust selection of non-alcoholic beverages. Water bowls and treats are also available for your four-legged friends.

In Manayunk, the menu features shareable bites and hearty favorites alongside a boardwalk-inspired selection reminiscent of a summer trip to the shore. Snacks such as fried cauliflower, fried clams, pretzel bites, onion rings, nachos, and loaded Sidewinder fries are perfect for gathering with friends. Heartier options include baskets of fried shrimp and chicken, fish and chips, and chicken kabobs, while the Summer Supper Salad and classic Caesar offer lighter fare. The menu also features classic handhelds like the Jamestown Smash Burger, fried chicken sandwich, and fried fish sandwich. The drink menu features playful, refreshing cocktails, including the Manayunk Mule, Gritty Margarita, Red Wooder Ice, and the new Garden Gusher Gummy Shot, alongside frozen cocktails, wine, craft beer, and non-alcoholic offerings for all to enjoy.

At South Street, the menu invites visitors to taste, share, and explore with playful, globally inspired flavors. New menu highlights include sticky chai pretzel bites, Jamaican jerk wings with pineapple and passionfruit chutney, and shareable dips like tofu ricotta with lemon zest and pita and white bean with garlic and rosemary olive oil. Guests can savor classic favorites alongside new twists, like chimichurri chicken skewers, a fried chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo, and plant-forward grain bowls and summer salads. Signature frozen cocktails return with new tropical and floral creations, including Mango Crush, Guava Limeade, Wild Flower Spritz, and Passion Punch, alongside classic favorites like the Gritty Margarita. With options for every appetite, South Street is the perfect place to gather, share, and enjoy bold seasonal flavors throughout the season.

Activities & Events
Both PHS Pop Up Gardens will host a variety of engaging events throughout the season, including free and ticketed experiences designed to connect the community with plants and one another. To learn more about events and programming, visit: phsonline.org/events.

Visitors can explore their creative side with Monthly Rooted Workshops, inspired by the 2026 Philadelphia Flower Show theme, Rooted: Origins of American Gardening. Each session highlights the history, stories, and traditions behind a different gardening practice, offering hands-on activities that range from kokedama and embroidery to pressed flowers, terrariums, and heirloom seed saving. These interactive sessions provide a playful and educational way to learn new gardening techniques while taking home a unique, personalized creation.

The famed monthly, free Plant Swap series is back again this year at both gardens. Throughout the season, guests who visit South Street can acquire new plants for their homes thanks to Solo Real Estate, a Center City-based independent real estate company committed to sustainably investing in communities. Solo Real Estate will co-host the monthly Plant Swaps with giveaways of horticultural favorites such as summer bulbs, houseplants, succulents, and more. Solo will also provide plant prizes for guests who pre-register for the Plant Swaps.

Beyond workshops and plant swaps, the Pop Up Gardens offer a lively calendar of programming. Visitors can enjoy live music on select nights, free jazz in the South Street garden twice monthly, weekly karaoke in Manayunk, and watch FIFA games and Phillies matchups on TV. Guests can also keep an eye out for seasonal celebrations, special mixers, and other creative activations throughout the summer. Manayunk will debut a Sunday Garden Market featuring local vendors and brunch items, making each visit an opportunity to connect with the community while enjoying food, drinks, and music.
