PHILADELPHIA, PA – September 9, 2026 – The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is welcoming the fall season with a lineup of events and activities at its Pop Up Gardens on South Street and in Manayunk. As cooler weather and autumn color arrive, visitors are invited to gather in the gardens and enjoy seasonal programming throughout September and October, including live entertainment, hands-on workshops, and opportunities for plant lovers to connect. This fall also offers visitors a final chance to enjoy the PHS Pop Up Garden at Manayunk and celebrate the beloved community gathering space as it marks its final season in the neighborhood, with an official closing date of October 5, 2026. The South Street Pop Up Garden will remain open through Halloween, with the possibility of bonus weekends if the fall weather cooperates.

Fall Events at the PHS Pop Up Gardens

This season, both the South Street and Manayunk Pop Up Gardens are bursting with fall color and seasonal beauty to help visitors celebrate the best of autumn with festive events and hands-on workshops.

There’s still time to book your fall gathering in one of our covered garden spaces, complete with heaters, warm drinks, and a welcoming seasonal atmosphere. Private events are available for groups starting at 20 people. Submit your event inquiry here.

At the South Street Pop Up Garden, fall brings plenty of opportunities to gather, get creative, and connect with fellow plant lovers at both free and ticketed events. Guests can stop by for the September Plant Swap (September 15), try their hand at Figure Drawing (September 17), enjoy an afternoon of live Jazz (September 20), or learn how to preserve seeds from their favorite plants at an Heirloom Seed Saving Workshop (September 29). The season’s plant programming continues with the October Plant Swap (October 6), giving gardeners another chance to exchange plants, cuttings, and tips with the PHS community. The South Street Garden will also continue opening at noon for lunch throughout the fall, offering even more time to enjoy the garden as the seasons change.

This fall offers visitors a final chance to gather, celebrate, and enjoy the PHS Pop Up Garden at Manayunk before the garden concludes its successful run in the neighborhood at the end of the 2026 season. The Manayunk garden will offer weekly Quizzo every Wednesday and Karaoke every Saturday, along with special events and horticultural programming. Plant lovers can join the September Plant Swap (September 14), get creative at a Paint & Sip Workshop (September 19), and learn how to collect and preserve seeds for future growing seasons at an Heirloom Seed Saving Workshop (September 28). The season will culminate with the October Plant Swap (October 5).

Celebrating the Final Season of the PHS Pop Up Garden at Manayunk

After several wonderful years in Manayunk, PHS is celebrating the final season of the PHS Pop Up Garden at Manayunk and the community that has embraced the garden since it opened in 2020. PHS’s Pop Up Garden model has always been rooted in the idea of temporarily transforming spaces into welcoming neighborhood gathering places that bring people together through gardening, connection, and community.

PHS is grateful for the opportunity to have called Manayunk home for an extended period and is proud of what the garden has meant to the neighborhood. Looking ahead, PHS is actively exploring and vetting potential sites and neighborhoods for future Pop Up Gardens, with the goal of bringing these shared horticultural experiences to more communities across the region.

The PHS Pop Up Garden at Manayunk will welcome guests for its final day on October 5, culminating with the garden’s final Plant Swap from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. The day will serve as a celebration of PHS’s time in Manayunk and the many visitors, plant lovers, and community members who have made the garden a beloved gathering place over the years. PHS invites the community to come together this fall to enjoy the garden, share memories, and celebrate the lasting impact of this special green space in Manayunk.
