PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) invites visitors to embrace the spirit of fall at its Pop Up Gardens on South Street and in Manayunk. This season brings a fresh lineup of festive drinks and food, plant swaps, workshops, and family-friendly celebrations, culminating in a Halloween weekend full of free activities in Manayunk. Both gardens will remain open through November 2, with the possibility of bonus weekends if the fall weather cooperates.

Fall Food and Drink Specials

As the weather cools, the PHS Pop Up Gardens will debut seasonal food and drink offerings to keep guests cozy. At the South Street Garden, visitors can sip on an Autumn Mule (cinnamon vodka, cider, ginger beer), enjoy the fall flavors in pumpkin spiced hot cocoa, hot cider, or hot chocolate (all available spiked or alcohol-free), and enjoy hearty bites like bratwursts and a harvest veggie wrap.

In Manayunk, fall flavors shine with warm cider and caramel hot toddies, along with Oktoberfest rotating local beers, and a beer braised Beyond bratwurst topped with apple cider sauerkraut and Dijon cheese sauce. Football season brings a lineup of game-day favorites, including crispy smoked wings, broccoli, cheddar and chorizo-stuffed potato skins, and a gametime tailgate board loaded with wings, potato skins, kosher dogs, and pretzel bites with queso. Fans can also enjoy Garage Beer, the Kelce brothers’ brand, for just $5 during games. The Phillies playoff season will be celebrated with the Red October Special: a red Wooder Ice frozen cocktail served in a souvenir Phillies “Cocktail Cap” for $10 during games, and game-day hot dog boards for the whole group to enjoy.

Fall Events at the PHS Pop Up Gardens

This season, both the South Street and Manayunk Pop Up Gardens are bursting with fall color and seasonal beauty to help visitors celebrate the best of autumn with festive events and hands-on workshops.

There’s still time to book your fall gathering in one of our covered garden spaces, complete with heaters, warm drinks, and a welcoming seasonal atmosphere. Private events are available for groups starting at 20 people. Submit your event inquiry here.

At South Street, guests can get creative at a Moss Terrarium Workshop (September 30) or close out with the final PHS Plant Swap (October 7). Fall fun continues with furry friends at BarktoberFest sponsored by von Trapp Brewing (October 16) and the October Sip City Mixer (date TBD), making South Street the perfect place for community and connection this October.

In Manayunk, the Garden will be buzzing with activity all season long, starting with a hands-on Moss Terrarium Workshop (September 29). Plant lovers won’t want to miss the final PHS Plant Swap (October 6) or the series of special free plant giveaways in October, including succulents (October 15), dried eucalyptus bundles (October 22), and bags of spring bulbs (October 31). Seasonal celebrations also include a Paint & Sip doormat painting session by Portable Picasso (October 12), the Manayunk Fall Fest where the PHS Pop Up Garden at Manayunk will be participating in a Mac & Cheese Crawl and hosting Gay Bingo (both on October 18) and community-wide Trick or Treating (October 25).

As night falls, the garden comes alive for the grown-ups with a thrilling costume contest (prizes included!), a free, high-energy Rocky Horror Picture Show Tribute Drag Show, and beats from DJ Da Boo Boo to keep the party going late into the night.
