Get outside and celebrate a new season with fresh flavors and stunning greenery at PHS’s beloved outdoor spaces featuring a bar, restaurant, events, games and a community garden. 

PHILADELPHIA, PA – March 27, 2025 – The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is thrilled to celebrate Spring with the highly anticipated re-opening of the PHS Pop Up Gardens at Manayunk and South Street on March 28, 2025. These verdant outdoor spaces are a green retreat in the heart of Philadelphia; filled with plant displays, delicious food and drink offerings and engaging activities for all ages. 
This year’s season brings new menu additions, freshly crafted cocktail creations and a lineup of hands-on workshops and events. Enjoy delicious food and drinks while supporting a greener Philadelphia region – proceeds from your visit help PHS advance community health and well-being through year-round greening initiatives.  

If you loved the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show and wondered what happened to the beautiful plants in the exhibits, look no further than the PHS Pop Up Gardens! Hundreds of plants and shrubs are given a second home after the Flower Show while continuing to build on PHS’s sustainability efforts.

Food and Beverage 
Both PHS Pop Up Gardens offer a wide range of food options for everyone to enjoy, including vegetarian, vegan and meat-based options along with water bowls and treats for your four-legged friends. Enjoy creative cocktails, refreshing frozen drinks, a well-rounded selection of wine, craft beers and a robust selection of non-alcoholic offerings. 

In Manayunk, the menu features a mix of shareable bites and hearty options. This season, surfside inspired eats and drinks take center stage including shrimp cocktail complete with cocktail sauce and lemon, tacos featuring a choice of protein, creamy cabbage slaw, red onion, pickled jalapeño and lime nestled in a corn tortilla, and fish & chips with crispy fried striped bass, creamy coleslaw and lemon, complimented with the signature sidewinder fries. The drink menu this year boasts new frozen cocktails including the Manayunk Mule, a refreshing concoction of White Claw pineapple vodka, Fever Tree ginger beer, dragon fruit and lime, and the Red Wooder Ice cocktail featuring Holla Banana vodka, passionfruit and Hawaiian Punch. 

At South Street, visitors can enjoy a variety of food offerings including shareable bites to nibble on and savor with a group. The menu features new sweet and savory empanadas in a variety of flavors including cheeseburger, buffalo chicken, and apple pie as well as pretzel bites, mozzarella sticks, sidewinder fries and more. Refreshing salads like the watermelon salad with arugula, feta, mint, basil, watermelon, and balsamic and summer salad with arugula, spinach, roasted red peppers, red onion, cucumbers, tomato and roasted corn topped with white balsamic vinaigrette are the perfect way to welcome warmer days. Celebrate the season and sip on signature frozen cocktails with the return of the famed Gritty Margarita featuring Lunazul Blanco tequila, Tang, lime and black salt as well as the new Mango Water Ice made with White Claw Mango vodka and lemon. These items will be available to enjoy alongside seasonal specialties and more refreshing drinks, perfect for enjoying in the garden setting. 

Activities and Events 
Both PHS Pop Up Gardens will host a variety of engaging events throughout the season, including both free and ticketed events. Connect with fellow plant lovers and learn more about gardening!   

Visitors can explore their creative side with hands-on craft workshops, including garden embroidery, pressed flower workshops, orchid workshops and moss terrarium making. These interactive sessions provide a fun and relaxing way to learn new gardening techniques and skills while creating a unique, take-home place inspired by nature. 

The famed monthly, free Plant Swap series is back again this year at both gardens. Throughout the season, guests who visit South Street can acquire new plants for their homes thanks to Solo Real Estate, a Center City-based independent real estate company committed to sustainably investing in communities. Solo Real Estate will co-host the monthly Plant Swaps with giveaways of horticultural favorites such as summer bulbs, houseplants, succulents, and more. Solo will also provide plant prizes for guests who pre-register for the Plant Swaps, including complimentary pollinator mix seed packs, tote bags and recycling containers that guests can take home throughout the season.
