Spring has sprung at PHS’s Parkway Gardens, including Logan Square, the Rodin Museum, the Azalea Garden, and over 15 other
free-to-all gardens across the Philadelphia region
April 18, 2023, PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) planted 110,000 bulbs in gardens spanning along Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Parkway, with 30,000 vibrant seasonal bulbs now reaching peak bloom at Logan Square this spring. Whether you’re visiting from out of town or a Philadelphia local, all are welcomed to experience these stunning spring blooms and follow the bulb trail through Center City from LOVE Park to Logan Square, to the Rodin Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Sculpture Garden and Azalea Garden.
Bulb varieties along this breathtaking bulb trail will include Alliums, Camassia, Crocus, Hyacinth, Muscari, Daffodil, and Tulips. Additionally, keep an eye out for new signage at Logan Square this year detailing plant materials, layout, and designer’s vision.
PHS Public Gardens and Landscapes are an integral part of the PHS mission of promoting health and well-being through horticulture. These areas create vital greenspace throughout the Philadelphia region, contribute to much-needed tree canopy, and attract vital pollinators, all while benefiting both physical and mental health. Free to access for all, these spaces offer neighbors, suburbanites, and out-of-town visitors the opportunity to connect with the natural world, be inspired by plants and gardening, and foster social connections.
As we enter the spring season, this Center City bulb trail, along with over 15 additional stunning PHS Public Gardens and Landscapes, are sure to offer visitors an exciting and inspiring respite from winter with multi-colored plantings and innovative designs.
For example, visit the Delaware River Waterfront and Philadelphia Navy Yard this spring to take in stunning waterfront views, and new plantings from PHS. Or stop by the Eastern State Penitentiary to take in a piece of Philadelphia history and peruse beautiful spring bulb displays. South Philadelphia’s Geary Park will also be brought to life with new plantings and a park renovation led by PHS.
The PHS Pop Up Gardens on South Street and in Manayunk are also officially open for the season and will be refreshed with a spring palette. Visitors can also keep their eyes peeled for new signage at both locations detailing information on what is in bloom. These stunning gardens offer an urban oasis, complete with delicious food and beverages, and an exciting lineup of events, programming, and activities. Stop by the Manayunk Pop Up Garden for Sunday yoga or build your gardening expertise with regular horticultural programming at both sites, such as plant swap events, microgreen gardening, teacup gardening, pressed flower classes, and even free bulb giveaways!
Additionally, The Gateway Garden at Drexel is returning for its third year! This vibrant garden space is brimming with bulb blooms and hosts weekly programming and events, including “Meet the Brewers” pop-up events every Wednesday, and farm markets every Thursday.
