Bustling garden eateries feature fun for you and your pets including a bar, resturant, events, games, and a community garden

PHILADELPHIA, PA – March 29, 2023 – The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated seasonal re-opening of the PHS Pop Up Gardens for the 2023 season at Manayunk and South Street! Discover PHS’s tranquil outdoor gardens that feature stunning plants and flowers, as well as a tasty selection of food and drink, and fun entertainment options. Come out and drink and dine for a cause, knowing that proceeds from a fun time out with your loved ones (both furry and human!) will support the nonprofit PHS’s important work advancing health and well-being through gardening in the Philadelphia region.
NEW THIS SEASON:  Due to its popularity, the South Street Pop Up Garden has expanded this year! With 50 new seats, this popular Center City spot can now accommodate more guests than ever.

Visit the link below for more information on the PHS Pop Up Gardens and its events calendar.

Food and Beverage

As in years past, PHS Pop Up Gardens will offer a menu that consists of both vegetarian/vegan and meat-based options plus water bowls and snacks for furry friends, making sure that there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Both gardens will provide cocktail, wine, and beer enthusiasts with an expanded list of domestic and craft canned beers, as well as 10 draft beer options. The Pop Up Gardens' beverage menu will also provide several non-alcoholic drink options such as Athletic Brewing's Free Wave non-alcoholic hazy IPA, virgin frozen piña colada, and other exciting options.

Manayunk

Menu items for this year's Manayunk Pop Up Garden will include warm weather fare such as grilled caesar wraps, shrimp rolls, and grilled cheese, sidewinder nachos, vegan chicken tenders and fries, and hummus prepared with toasted pita and fresh vegetables.
Manayunk has added 3 new cocktails to its menu including the High Tide, which combines Elijah Craig bourbon, green tea syrup, and Fever Tree lemon tonic. Returning favorites like the Woodermelon, made with Tito's Vodka, watermelon, Fever Tree ginger beer, and lime will also be featured.

South Street

The South Street Pop Up Garden offers fresh-popped popcorn with the option of cinema style or bagel spice, fried cheese curds, and homemade guacamole and chips as appetizers for guests. Try an Impossible cheeseburger, grilled bratwurst, or roasted veggie wrap if you’re in the mood for heartier fare.
New this season is an expanded menu of frozen cocktails including the Sno-Groni featuring Bluecoat gin, Carpano bianco, and Carpano bitters in addition to its full bar selection of cocktails, wines, and beers.

Groups

The Pop Up Gardens serve as the perfect location for large gatherings who are looking for a beautiful social environment. Whatever the occasion, the Pop Up Gardens’ menu and facilities provide the ideal setting for gatherings with friends and loved ones of any size or scale.
Beginning on April 1st, Resy.com will allow groups of 10 to 20 people to book a table at the location of their choice for the upcoming 2-week period.
For groups of more than 20 guests, the gardens are both available for private events. Visit the website for more information.

Activities and Events

Both sites host weekly activities that include both free and ticketed events. Come and learn more about the joy of gardening!
The monthly free Plant Swap will continue to take place on the first Monday in Manayunk and the first Tuesday on South Street sponsored by Solo Real Estate. Throughout the season, you can visit the South Street garden and take away some new plants for your home. Solo Real Estate, a local real estate company and sponsor of the PHS Pop Up Garden at South Street since 2018, will be co-hosting monthly Plant Swaps with giveaways of horticultural favorites such as ranunculus bulbs, flowering annuals, houseplants, succulents, tulips, daffodil bulbs, and more. Solo Real Estate will also be providing complimentary native flower seeds and recycling containers throughout the season. Deborah Solo, owner of Solo Real Estate, said “The PHS Pop-Up Garden demonstrates how vacant spaces can be transformed into beautiful gathering spaces for all ages. Solo is pleased to support PHS and the great work they do in the community.”
For those looking for interactive experiences, several hands-on events will be held throughout the season. One of the many intriguing events is Small Space Gardening, featuring advice for constructing a beautiful container, led by PHS's Vice President of Horticulture, Andrew Bunting. Participants will be given three springtime plants and a container chosen by PHS designers to create a spectacular custom arrangement.
