2024 Board of Director Appointments

January 5, 2024 - The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) announced appointments for its 2024 Board of Directors. Among these esteemed individuals are leaders from diverse industries and backgrounds, each poised to contribute their expertise to the advancement of PHS’s mission.

Each member brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and a commitment to our mission of using horticulture to enhance the health and well-being of the region. Their diverse backgrounds and unwavering dedication to community service will enrich our strategic endeavor to create healthier living environments, promote access to fresh food, increase access to economic opportunities, and foster deeper social connections through our initiatives. Together, we will work to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve,” said Matt Rader, President of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.

Margaret Sadler – Board Chair
As a longtime Board member and previous Board Chair, PHS is thrilled to have Sadler step into the Board Chair position for a second time, further solidifying her commitment to fostering growth and excellence within PHS.

Margaret Sadler spent her career as a Human Resource (HR) executive for multinational corporations helping managers resolve organizational problems. Throughout her career, she took time to be involved with many nonprofit and government agencies from chairing a Civil Service Commission to a seat on an Historic House Board. Sadler is a former Trustee of the Women’s Law Project, where she served as Chair of the Governance and HR committees. She is the recent past President of Friends of Falls Library and currently Trustee and Treasurer of the Woodmere Art Museum. Since 2012, Sadler has done pro bono consulting for nonprofits that have included social service and social change, cultural and educational organizations. Her consulting has addressed such topics as board development and training, strategic planning, organizational assessment, structural change, and succession planning. 

Patti Owens – Vice Chair
PHS welcomes current Board member Patti Owens as Vice Chair, leveraging her extensive expertise in finance and strategic leadership.

Patricia Owens is a Senior Banker at J.P. Morgan Private Bank in the Mid-Atlantic Region, where she and her team advises high-net-worth families, private business owners, and foundations on wealth management strategies, including portfolio construction, estate planning, credit, and tax-efficient investment management. Prior, she was President and Chief Executive Officer of Sage Hill Partners, a strategy consulting firm, and brings more than 20 years of business experience to her role. She also served as Chief Strategy Officer at Decision Strategies International, and held various executive positions with Goldman Sachs & Co., SEI Investments, Bryn Mawr Trust Company, and PNC Bank. She was named one of “Pennsylvania’s Best 50 Women in Business” by the state’s Department of Community & Economic Development and was also awarded the prestigious “Woman of Distinction” designation by the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Eric Del Viscio – Board Member
Eric is Global Commercial Banking (GCB) Market Executive for Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware. In this role, Eric oversees Bank of America’s Commercial Banking team that provides a full range of banking solutions to companies throughout the region with annual revenues of $50 million to $2 billion. Most recently, Eric was a Senior Relationship Manager, serving commercial clients in the region. Prior to this, he spent eleven years in various commercial and international banking roles. Eric is on the International Business Advisory Committee at Elizabethtown (Pa.) College. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of CCSA (Chester Charter Scholars Academy) Foundation and currently serves on their Fundraising Committee.

Alison Marx – Board Member
Alison Marx is the Vice Chair of Administration for the Department of Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She leads administrative aspects of operations, planning, and academic activities of the department. She partners with physician and administrative leaders to advance strategic goals, develop effective systems, and support positive outcomes for patients, families, and 800+ faculty/physicians and staff. She designed and co-leads the Department of Pediatrics Chair’s Initiatives, an internal grant funding program with the objective of initiating change and investing in innovation, quality, safety, and the future of child health. Marx is a member of the CHOP Cares Community Advisory Board and an ardent supporter of the institution’s Reach Out and Read program. She was instrumental in the creation of CHOP’s therapeutic rooftop Sea Garden, where she first collaborated with PHS, and she continues to provide administrative guidance for the garden’s programming supporting health and well-being. Prior to her 30+ year tenure at CHOP, Alison worked at Harvard Community Health Plan in Boston in the Quality-of-Care Measurement Department.
Hank Reichner – Board Member
Hank Reichner is a partner in the litigation department of Reed Smith LLP, an international law firm. He is also President and Chair of the Board of the Philadelphia Belt Line Railroad Company, a railroad serving the Port of Philadelphia. Hank previously served on PHS’s Council and its Executive Committee. He also formed the PHS Audit Committee in 2001 and served as its chair until 2007. His other community involvement has included service on the boards of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Bartram’s Garden, the Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks, and the Woodlands Cemetery.
Timothy J. Riddle, CFA – Board Member
Tim Riddle is the Chief Executive Officer of Chartwell and is responsible for the strategic planning of the firm. He is an original founding partner of the firm and serves on the Executive and Compliance Committees. Prior to starting Chartwell, he was a Senior Vice President at Delaware Investment Advisers, where he directed the institutional client service effort. Earlier, he was employed with Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home, where he served as Director of Investments.
