Kristen Bower, PHS Associate Director of Creative Services, continues her series on safely removing poison ivy from your garden.
In Part 2, Kristen shows us how to identify poison ivy, and also points out similar-looking plants that can be mistaken for it. She'll explain how to dig out the root system or rhizome, a continuously growing horizontal underground stem with lateral shoots and roots.
While her gardening and removal method are both 100 percent organic, she recommends the use of pesticides as a last resort (only on the poison ivy) if your area is too large to control.
