Pest Control

In a worst-case scenario, pests like mealybugs and scale can wreak havoc on houseplants, possibly even spreading from plant to plant. This makes it crucially important for you as a gardener to recognize the signs early enough to save your plants.

Julie Bare, PHS Meadowbrook Farm Senior Estate Gardener, shows us how to identify these common pests and monitor your plants for unhealthy characteristics that could indicate the presence of pests. Julie will point out the problems on two plants infected with scale and teach us how to bring our plants back to health, using either common household products like rubbing alcohol or organic solutions sold at garden and hardware stores.

Be sure to inspect your plants regularly – the sooner you catch a pest problem, the easier it will be to resolve!
