Harvesting Spring Greens

May 19, 2020

Adam Hill, PHS Senior Manager of Community Garden Operations, provides spring harvesting tips in his own backyard garden. Spring is the perfect time to grow baby greens like spinach and kale.

After harvesting, Adam recommends hydrocooling these greens in near freezing water to remove field heat and lower the temperature of your produce quickly. Following this, spin your greens dry in a salad spinner. This technique will help your greens retain their freshness for up to two weeks in a refrigerator.

Follow these and other simple steps with Adam in today’s video.
