A Message from Matt Rader, PHS President
Happy 50th Earth Day! I am sending good wishes of health and well-being to all of you during this challenging time.
Philadelphia is rich in natural resources, talented people, and efforts to create a healthy planet. I am proud of the work that PHS and its partners do every day to advance the health and well-being of the Greater Philadelphia Region.
I invite you to join me in embracing Earth Day as a call to wonder and gratitude. It is so easy to move through the world blind to the magnificence of natural systems operating all around us— a sun that provides light and heat, oxygen-rich air to breathe, seeds that germinate, plants and soils that clean air and water. If you do nothing else to celebrate Earth Day, pause and wonder at nature—use your eyes to trace every line of a tree from the soil to the tip of the branches or push your hand or foot into the soil and hold it there.
I know that many of you are expanding your love of gardening right now. PHS is here to share inspiration and provide gardening tips—check out our social media channels for daily videos and blogs, become a member, visit our website to borrow an e-book or ask a gardening question, and join our email list to stay up to date on virtual learning opportunities now—and in-person ones in the future.
Commemorating Earth Day is easy—plant something at home, join a community effort to plant trees or grow food for those in need, or simply become a member of PHS.
Please reach out to us if any questions or suggestions —we're here for you. Please help us garden for the greater good.
