Join us for a food gardening tour exploring two remarkable locations committed to fresh, healthy food. The Erdenheim Tour focuses on sustainable agriculture, while The Spring Gardens Tour showcases a vibrant community garden, fostering community involvement. Both share a mission of cultivating nutritious food essential for health and well-being.
Food Gardening Tour Schedule:
- The Erdenheim Farm tour begins with docent-led explorations through the historic sheep barn, and around parts of the farm typically encountering goats, sheep, henhouses, and some cattle. The tours also include a trip to Wissahickon Creek, where it crosses through the farm. The docents will provide information about Erdenheim Farm's 250+ year history, preservation, animal care, sustainable agriculture, the watershed, and environmental stewardship.
- In the afternoon, we return to the city for lunch and a tour of one of the city’s most iconic community gardens, The Spring Gardens. After an overview and introduction to the garden, there will be a volunteer-led tour, or you can wander on your own.
