Richard and Mengistu are brothers who were raised in West Philadelphia. Close to a decade ago, Richard tried his hand at brewing beer at home and shortly after, Mengistu joined him and the two learned together. They began sharing their beers with friends and family and before they knew it, started doing sampling events around the city with strangers. They realized the lack of black brewers and black owned breweries and made it their mission to bring the first black owned brewery to Philadelphia. This past winter, they turned their dream into a reality and opened their brick-and-mortar brewpub in uCitySquare, at 3675 Market Street!
