PHS McLean Library

Enjoy a magical opportunity to view the PHS McLean Library's rare books collection with Associate Director of the PHS McLean Library and long-time librarian Janet Evans. In her talk, Janet will focus on these incredible rare books as well as the legacy and history of the library. After the talk and book viewing, we will move to the front of the library to enjoy afternoon tea in the cozy and plant-laden entry lounge.
The PHS McLean Library was founded in 1828, shortly after the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) was formed, and its name and longevity are owed to a generous legacy gift. It serves as a research library focused on horticulture, gardening, and urban greening, holding nearly 200 years of the society's history, including its major initiatives like the Philadelphia Flower Show and community gardening programs. The library also contains extensive archival materials, photographs, and digital collections documenting the history of horticulture in Philadelphia and beyond.
