Webinar
know to grow
In this session, Dr. Pham will share a practical guide to diagnosing and managing the most common challenges facing rose gardeners, from pests and diseases to environmental stressors. Drawing on her philosophy of prevention over intervention, she'll cover how healthy soil, targeted nutrition, and thoughtful plant selection build plant resilience from the ground up.
She'll also take a deeper dive into the use of beneficial insects, going well beyond the ladybugs and praying mantis options you'll find at your local garden center. Dr. Pham will share how you can start incorporating these advanced biological solutions into your own garden.
PHS is delighted to present the Know to Grow Webinar Series, a vibrant and inclusive program designed to nurture your love for gardening. This reimagined lecture series welcomes everyone, from seasoned gardeners to those with a budding curiosity about the plant world.
Dr. Van Pham is the Head Grower at Heirloom and a horticultural expert with more than 15 years of experience in plant health, nursery production, and high- tech, sustainable growing systems. Her expertise spans a wide range of crops, including fruit trees, shade trees, evergreen, ornamental plants, roses, and
perennials. She is holding PhD in Agriculture from Ehime University, Japan and currently pursuing MBA in Business Analytics.
Dr. Pham's philosophy centers on the philosophy of her late father, who was an
ecologist that “follow the nature, not fight against it” to build plant resilience from the ground up. She focuses on plant health management which includes Pest and Disease Management, soil improvement, and custom nutrition programs that strengthen a plant's natural defense system, the first line of defense against pests, diseases, and environmental stresses. By crafting targeted feeding formulas
and fostering healthy soil biology, she helps plants become more vigorous, productive, and adaptable to changing growing conditions.
A strong advocate for a cohort-based approach to plant health, Dr Pham integrates cultural practices, beneficial insects, microbial bioagents, and biological controls into a comprehensive management strategy across her
practices. Her work emphasizes prevention over intervention, creating balanced ecosystems while reduce pest and disease pressure on your garden while supporting long-term crop health and sustainability.
In this webinar, Dr. Pham will share practical insights on leveraging natural defense systems, beneficial organisms, and biological solutions to develop resilient growing programs that deliver healthier plants and more sustainable
production outcomes.
PHS's Vice President of Horticulture, Andrew Bunting, will moderate the discussion.
