Special Event
PHS Partner Location
Join us for a series of immersive gardening classes led by professional horticulturists, designed to enrich your gardening knowledge and inspire your green thumb! This collaborative effort between the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) and Chanticleer brings together the expertise of both organizations to offer a diverse range of programs and activities throughout the gardening season. Please direct any inquiries about this series to Cristina Tessaro at [email protected].
This class will cover all the fundamentals of propagating annual vegetable seedlings. PHS Director of Community Gardens, Adam Hill, will review the basics of seedling propagation including light, growing mediums, pots & containers, temperature, humidity, airflow, water needs, and watering systems. Additionally, seeding methods, crop planning & timing, and potting & preparing seedlings for transplant will be discussed. Adam will share more information about the PHS City Harvest Program, which grows over 250,000 seedlings for local farms and community gardens. Participants will have a chance to plant several seeds of their choice to take home and watch as they flourish. They will also receive a planting guide for each month of the year.
