Spring 2023 Distribution & Planting

Tree Unloading and Pickups 

  • Trees arrive Tuesday, April 18 (county groups) and Wednesday, April 19 (Philly groups)
  • Pickups are scheduled for April 19-21, 2023. 
  • Schedule your tree pickup timeslot at the link below (first come first served). You will be contacted with your confirmed timeslot in April.

Volunteer 

We need help at the warehouse (un)loading and processing close to 1,300 trees on Tuesday, April 18 - Friday, April 21. Many groups will pick up and plant trees!

Check back in March to sign up for a shift. If you don’t already have an account, please set one up, it is easy and you only need to do it once and are set for all your future PHS events.

3-10 business days before planting day

PA 1 Calls before digging, organize tools/supplies, final reminders to tree recipients/volunteers/leaders.

Tree Planting
Doublecheck trees were planted properly (root flare visible at soil grade, staked/tied - no strangling knots), mulched, and Tree Diapers hydrated and installed (if applicable) or tree adequately watered.

May 2, 2023

Philly street tree applications for Fall 2023 are due. See Application Hub for instructions and forms.

May 8, 2023

Submit your planting attendance and any signed paper waivers (more details here).

May 31, 2023

Map your trees in the PHS Urban Forest Cloud (county-based groups only, Philly trees are mapped by Jehane) - instructions from Asha-Lé to follow.

Tree Checkers summer health/care tree checkups community science data collection and training sessions. PHS will send you an invitation and instructions to participate in June.

COVID Safety Information

10/12/22 UPDATE - PHS is NO LONGER requiring proof of vaccination for volunteers. Groups may require vaccination at their own discretion.

Tree Application Approvals

We have received back the Spring 2023 approvals from PPR. Now updated with species selections!

  • Download the spreadsheet (linked above) to see all the trees that have been approved for planting (or rejected, or cancelled, etc.).
  • Use the small arrow in the top row to ‘filter’ and view just your TT group.
  • Species selections are in the FINAL ORDER column, and may shift with nursery availability.
  • Check to see if ‘extra’ trees were approved for your sites (highlighted in yellow)— please confirm with us how many of the trees the property owner actually wants.

Free mulch is available at the Fairmount Park Organic Recycling Center at 3850 W. Ford Rd. At the link above, each group has a mulch certificate to present at the Recycling Center.
