Planned Giving

Your gift supports PHS’s mission to improve lives through horticulture, creating a living legacy while offering many benefits to you or your family. Making a planned or deferred gift is a simple, yet impactful way to contribute significantly to the future health and beauty of our region.

Planned gifts are an excellent way to enjoy financial or tax benefits while making a contribution of greater significance than you may have imagined possible.

Donors who make a planned gift are eligible to join PHS’s Schaffer Society. For additional information about ways in which you can make a planned gift, please contact the PHS Development Office at 215.988.1622 or email [email protected].

Planning your Legacy - Bequests

A very simple way to provide a planned gift to PHS, a bequest allows you to make a more significant contribution without reducing assets available to you during your lifetime.

To include PHS in your will, the following wording is suggested:

I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, a nonprofit corporation organized and operating under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the sum of $_______  (or _____ percent of my estate) to be used for the general purposes of PHS.

If you have an interest in establishing a fund for a specific purpose, please contact the Development Office at 215-988-1622 for guidance.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A Charitable Gift Annuity is a fixed income plan, which pays you and/or another beneficiary a guaranteed income for life. In exchange for your gift of cash or securities, PHS will provide the beneficiary with a guaranteed lifetime income, a portion of which is tax-free. A gift annuity requires a $10,000 minimum gift and a minimum age requirement of 60.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Charitable Remainder Trusts make payments to you or a beneficiary for life or a term of years. At the expiration of the trust, PHS receives the remaining trust assets.

Charitable Lead Trusts

A Charitable Lead Trust enables you to preserve a portion of your estate and pass assets tax-free to your heirs.

Retirement Plans and Life Insurance Policies

You may designate PHS as the owner/beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan such as an IRA or 401(K) that you and your family may no longer require, simply by filling out a beneficiary designation form from your plan provider.
