Once an operational coal depot, this empty lot is now a lively garden for the Manayunk community to enjoy.
The venue takes advantage of the beauty and close community of Manayunk, providing a new garden for those interested in horticulture and food gardening. The garden features more than 2,200 plants, including varieties from agaves to verbena, canna to salvia, and herbs such as basil, thyme, and sage. The new PHS Pop Up Garden location is part of PHS's larger network of public gardens and landscapes throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
Walking through the garden, visitors may recognize a few plants. For instance, one of the decades-old olive trees from the Entrance Garden of the 2020 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show "Riviera Holiday" has been repurposed in the Manayunk location, as well as Wayward's exhibit "The Lemonary." While enhancing the ambiance to the garden, this highlights PHS's commitment to sustainability.
