To celebrate the 2018 Philadelphia Flower Show theme “Wonders of Water” see two botanical and bibliographic wonders from the PHS McLean Library’s special collections. The Amazon Water Lily, discovered in the 19th century in the rivers of South America, was originally known as Victoria regia, named after young Queen Victoria. This water lily was a horticultural and popular sensation that spawned two very large-size “elephant” folios, displaying the plant in lovely detail. This illustrated talk will be a “turning the pages” event. Participants will have an extraordinary opportunity to view two large-size works and learn more about them. Space is limited and reservations are required.
Please note: This program is eligible for Member's Early Registration (Nov 30-Dec 14). After December 14th, registration will be open to the general public.
