What a privilege to visit wonderful gardens in full bloom at summer’s end! When you enter the tranquil garden of Silas Mountsier, you are struck by the sense of privacy and serenity as you stroll through 2.25 acres of garden rooms, carefully sculpted hornbeams, and even a mound of liriope dubbed Mount Sier, all carefully designed by Richard Hartlage. In the back of the same property is horticulturist Graeme Hardie’s newly renovated house and surrounding gardens, complementing the existing landscape. After lunch in the Mountsier garden we’ll have a guided tour of Greenwood Gardens (Short Hills, NJ), which is undergoing painstaking restoration of its twenty-eight acres with the assistance of the Garden Conservancy. Greenwood Gardens was a private retreat with formal Italianate gardens that are coming back to life through the careful restoration and talented horticulture staff.
