Human Resources Intern

Position Summary:

The Human Resources internship is an opportunity for the student to gain professional skills and experiences within Human Resources. The internship position is a combination of in-class theory and on-the-job training. The program will focus on four main areas: Employee Relations and General HR Support, Recruitment, Onboarding and Benefits Administration.


Essential Functions: 

  • Employee Relations and General HR Support
    • Provide support to the VP of HR and HR Generalist
    • Field employee general inquiries about company benefits and policies
    • Research employee-specific questions and issues
    • Maintain electronic/hard employee files
    • Recruitment
    • Complete ADP recruitment webinar
    • Post job openings on PHS website and various job boards
    • Leverage social media tools to source qualified candidates
    • Review resumes/applications
    • Screen candidates via telephone
    • Schedule onsite interviews with candidates and hiring mangers
    • Perform reference checks
    • Update open requisition report
  • Onboarding: 
    • Input new hires into ADP 
    • Submit new hire background checks
    • Submit driver history audit
    • Create new hire electronic/hard files
    • Schedule and coordinate monthly new employee orientations
  • Benefits Administration
    • Complete ADP ACA webinar
    • Complete ADP open enrollment webinar
    • Assist with annual open enrollment, as appropriate
    • Provide with PHS payroll department with employee payroll information
    • Interface with benefit consultants and vendors to administer benefit programs


Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor degree in human resources, business administration or a related field;

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite;
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Able to prioritize, problem solve, multitask, work independently, and collaborate with others;
  • Able to handle confidential information; and
  • Be attentive to details.
