Each year, the PHS Community Greening Award recognizes greening and beautification efforts throughout the region, such as plantings that beautify main streets, public parks, train stations, churches, schoolyards, libraries, traffic islands, and other public spaces.
Volunteer judges evaluate sites in July and August based on plant variety, design, use of space, and horticultural practices. PHS notifies award winners in September. Sites that have been previous recognized may be nominated for outstanding maintenance. All honorees are invited to award receptions held in the fall at PHS Headquarters in Philadelphia and at sites in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh.
